  3. Across their six albums, The Jam touched on virtually every style in existance, and this CD is a great chance to see that. Their roots were in the punk / new wave scene, but frontman Paul Weller also had a lvoe of soul, funk and jazz, as well as an itneresting socio-political approach that had a different kind of bile to the Sex Pistols - it was perhaps more positive and inspirational, even in /5(33).

  5. Sound Affects is an audio snapshot of The Jam in transition, bridging from the hard driving New Wave Setting Sons to the Motown influenced The Gift. The original US vinyl release in began with Start!, which still seems to me like the perfect opening (though on this disk, it is returned to its spot on the UK release: at the end of "side 1")/5().

  6. These are some really good songs especially the ones with a psychedelic component mixed in with the punk sound of The Jam. I dont like the typical backup singing on Beat Surrender which has that typical Motown- styled singing prevalent on too many new wave /5(37).
